Transcribing great solos is one of the most important ways to learn how to play your instrument. Unfortunately in the past I've spent a lot of time going about it the wrong way.
When transcribing it's the PROCESS that's far more important than the immediate outcome.
DON'T slow the recording down unless it's absolutely necessary.
DON'T write it down until you have internalised and memorised it. (When it comes to writing it down you should be able to do it away from both the instrument and the recording.)
If this process is too difficult then pick another solo which is less complex and shorter and DO IT PROPERLY!
DON'T get frustrated, if you're doing it properly then trust that you are greatly improving in the long term.
